1. Eat Smart – 80% of The Time
Everyone knows that eating more fruits and vegetables is ideal, but it’s unrealistic to say “never eat pizza or take out”. Instead, work with the 80/20 rule. 80% percent of the time, make the healthy choices – have a salad instead of fries, drink water instead of a soda, skip dessert, grab veggies and hummus for a snack instead of chips. 20% of the time, let yourself have a cheeseburger or enjoy some ice cream or a Frappuccino. You can’t be good all the time; but if you make a true effort most of the time, you’ll be on the right track!
(Scared of the “Freshman 15”? Stay away from the buffet and choose portion-controlled options and avoid sugar coffee drinks. Eat small snacks throughout the day with protein and fiber to fill up with the good stuff!)
Creating healthy habits early on in life will make it easier for you to continue making good choices as you age. This is just one of my Grad's Healthy Habits - check back next week for another one!
